GCSL Grown Up Swimming

Message from Claire Lukens - - - I'm a fellow swim parent and late-to-the-sport masters swimmer. I live in the South Park area and my kids swim for Foxcroft East Gators & swimMAC. I'm reaching out about a new type of swim league coming to Charlotte this summer: Grown Up Swimming is a nationwide sought-after swim league for adults that appeals to many different folks.

  • It's for grown up swimmers to tap into the nostalgia of their swimming as a kid.
  • It's for parents to take a break from chasing after their kids' activities to focus on themselves for a little bit.
  • It's for adults who want a sporty, social, fun activity for summer evenings.
  • The meets are low-pressure, fun and social. All levels of speed and fitness are welcome.
Do you think your members would like to participate? Do you have parents or coaches who get REALLY into the coach/parent relays? Lap swimmers or empty nesters who love swimming and hanging at the pool? I think the GCSL League needs at least one team per division this summer! https://www.grownupswimming.com/form-a-team The Meet Details: July 10 - Sept 4th
Meet #1 July 10th Southpark area 6-8pm
Meet #2 July 17th Weddington Wahoos 6-8pm
Meet #3 July 24th Huntersville area 6-8pm
Meet #4 August 21st or 28th Gastonia area 6-8pm Champ Meet Sept 4th 6-8pm Southpark area The Meet Format: 25 free 50 free 25 back 50 back 25 breast 50 breast 25 fly 50 fly 100 IM RELAYS!! The Teams: Expect masters teams, neighborhood clubs, country clubs, retired swimmer 20-somethings teams who used to be swimmers and who are looking for something like this active & social.
Hosting a Meet: This is a great way to get even more adults in the community involved. I have heard stories of neighborhoods that went from a handful of people doing "masters" lap swimming to having 20-30 people on the team after they hosted a meet. Host teams can run a concession stand and bring in revenue either for the facility or the kids' team. It's a way to showcase the community. Some families have even joined a club after competing at a meet. More Details:
  • I'm expecting 40-60 swimmers this first year
  • Any adult 18+ who can swim a 25 is welcome to join a team.
  • I do all the work of running the meet, with the help of the competitors. No volunteers required.
  • There is a registration fee which covers the cost of organizing the league and running the meets. It's as low as $60 with early bird & USMS discounts
Please feel free to give me a call anytime if you'd like to chat and let me know if you have any questions.
